Vol.7 Tsukishima

For this second walk of the year 2020, I take you to an “artificial” Tokyo, on an island created at the end of the 19th century … Tsukishima Island.
It’s always confusing for me, how Tokyo can change from one metro station to the next and when you arrive at Tsukishima station, you feel in a really more local Tokyo, calm and having its neighborhood life.

And how to go to Tsukishima without walking in Monja Street, which is a street known for these various restaurants offering this type of restoration, especially accompanied by a little alcoholic drinks 🙂 I love Japan, but for me food is really not my first interest, for that I remain very European and in addition I never drink alcohol, so it is an alley that I know more of outside only for the ambiance of these restaurants…

One thing that upsets me when I walk in Tsukishima, it is its large apartment buildings, which I find very little pressing in Tokyo, which for me offers more the image of small apartments of a few floors or house, as in the west area of the city.

It is a neighborhood where I often go in the morning with travelers from Europe, either after having been to Tsukiji, or before going to Ginza… It is fun to stroll through the alleys and see this image of Tokyo for Europeans and take advantage of its small melon pan shops or even stop at NEWS Art Salon museum of Kyodo News to read a Japanese newspaper…
